Norman
had his own band, Norman Hale Band playing at West Park Pavillion in
Jersey. One night DJ Sparky
came up to Norman, and told him to go on stage alone, without the band.
The curtains where closed, so he started a rock blues piano peace. The
first one to come on stage from the wings, was John Bonham and he just
went "Hi" and sat by the drums, picking up the beat. Next on
was John-Paul Jones for base. Norman didn't recognise who it was until
Jimmy Page came on stage with his guitar. Robert Plant walked on last
with a crutch. Then the curtains opened and the DJ anounced "Ladies
and Gentlemen, Norman Hale with Led Zeppelin." The audience went
mad. Led
Zeppelin became Normans backing group, working together most nights
during their tax exile. It made the 'UK Melody Maker' and 'New Musical
Express' news papers.
